In a significant move towards environmental conservation, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) have partnered to restore a section of the Maragoli Hills Forest.
Leading the initiative is Vice Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General John Omenda, who is spearheading the efforts to rehabilitate the adopted section of the forest.
The Maragoli Hills Forest, located in Vihiga County, has faced extensive degradation over the years due to illegal logging, charcoal burning, and encroachment for agricultural purposes. Recognizing the urgent need for intervention, the KDF and KFS have committed to restoring the forest ecosystem, which plays a crucial role in water catchment, biodiversity conservation, and climate regulation.
Under the leadership of General Omenda, the joint team has embarked on a series of activities, including tree planting, soil conservation, and community sensitization. The initiative aims not only to restore the forest cover but also to engage local communities in sustainable forest management practices.
The restoration of the Maragoli Hills Forest is a beacon of hope for the local community and a step forward in Kenya’s journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.
